It is hard to describe all the sensation that Mandy – the horror film starring Nicolas Cage, brought to the audience.
Mandy is based on the character Red Miller (Nicolas Cage), living in the forest with her girlfriend Mandy Bloom (Andrea Riseborough). They kept quiet each other in the arms, until Mandy entered the “blue eyes” of the head of a strange cult called Children of the New Dawn – Jeremiah Sand. He manages to kidnap Mandy and injure Red. However, after being ridiculed by Mandy, he burns her, starting with Red’s revenge series.
Mandy is made up of two totally different movies. The first half of the movie, the pace was slow, steady and everything was so bad. Movies are not much and you will sometimes wonder what is going on. The ending point of the first half is when Red’s peaceful life is destroyed when the loved ones are burned to ashes. In the second half of Mandy, the viewer is witnessing a completely different slasher movie with bloody confrontations.
The plot is simple, and if you understand the real surface of the movie, then Mandy is not that hard to understand. A group of people with too much stimulant to the point of no longer distinguish between real and virtual, a self-afflicted, self-sacrificing spirit, and do not admit to being a failure, useless. Finally ended with the vengeance of a miserable man.
However, if so simple, then Mandy will seem boring and simple but hidden behind this story are many metaphor images that the filmmakers want to send, and poses the question: Where is the line between the mind god and spirit? Strange dialogues, deadly images of a wild deer in the forest, Mandy’s incredible gaze, drastic color transitions, the book that Mandy is reading … All the signs of imminent anomaly out. Watching and analyzing details from a movie is hard to do, as Mandy requires you to film the movie, and then, if you want to understand, you can watch it and explain it later.
The film uses bold colors, dark pink, dark red, dark purple, dark blue … to convey its own story, in addition to the effect “grain” (particles on the film) Panos Cosmatos created to add artistic value and nostalgic effects to the film. However, if unfamiliar, it will create a feeling of discomfort for the audience. Movies that use most of the rock, heavy metal, etc., add to the heavy feeling of the film.
Another special feature is the voice of the characters when normal, when the abnormal bass. Pictures, colors and sounds combine to make the filmmaker’s intention, so that the audience really understands what the feeling is when using stimulants, how things get around. This is the real meaning layer, its supernatural meaning is when the character is no longer himself, becomes a demon both in literal and figurative sense.
The second half of the film is a bloody moment, and the confrontation between two characters with two saw blades, prompting audiences to remember about Texas Chainsaw Massacre a while. The movie also uses more anime-based anime segments no less horrific.
Regarding acting, Nicolas Cage was able to do his best because of the role, showing the fullness of pain and suffering, and then the completely changed personality of a man with a peaceful life. suddenly broken. And in the segments of action, we still see something of a high-profile action actor. Mandy, though only a supporting character, was impressed by the look that made her look shivering. Big eyes, long hair plus visual effects, combined sound made the character of actress Andrea Riseborough become the boldest character in the film. The cast is not too impressive, but enough for the audience to remember, remember the name and good performance of his role.
Mandy continues to be another worth watching horror movie this Halloween. But not everyone agrees with the movie, but maybe when you finish watching you will feel like.
